What would cause the viewfinder of a camera to not work, but pictures to come out perfectly?

We have a canon 20D that all of a sudden, when you look through the viewfinder, NOTHING is in focus, not when you use manual or auto focus. But when you take a picture, they are all coming out clear. What the heck is going on and how do we fix it? We've had this camera for 3 years and this has never happened!

  1. Check the diopter adjustment wheel to the top and side of the viewfinder. Look through the viewfinder, and turn this wheel until the boxes indicating the focus point in the viewfinder look their sharpest. This is the point at which the diopter adjustment wheel is set properly for your eyes.
  2. Ben's right. I guarantee it.
